I know how hard it must be to see a pair of big shiny eyes staring at you with a pout, no matter how cute they may look do not give in. Look it’s a known fact that sugar is bad for you. In the long run you could get diabetes and other health complications but one thing we tend to overlook is behavior.

Too much sugar can affect your child’s mood, their  activity and hyperactivity levels. This is most likely to affect their behavior in school. Possibly even result in poor concentration in class and a decline in their school work. Studies show that an increase in sugar levels increases the level of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is important for brain functioning through blood sugar control. When a child has extreme levels of sugar it can interfere with neurotransmitters that are responsible for keeping moods stable.

Try giving your child less sugar and see how less angry and cranky they get. Now we are not saying eliminate all sugar intake, but we are suggesting that you substitute that lollipop for an apple instead. Fruits are a great source of sugar and they are packed with loads of vitamins.

The next time your picking out snacks for your kids try choosing fresh and natural items. Fruit rolls and dried fruits are a great substitute for candy. They are sweet and chewy. Your child might not be 100% cool with the idea at first, but gradually they will get used to it. Let’s start  making healthy choices.
